Dakota Speas Obituary

Dakota Chase "DayDay" Speas, cherished by all who knew him for his loving nature and creative spirit, passed away on March 18, 2024, in Nashville, TN, at the age of 26. Born on November 28, 1997, in Mt. Airy, North Caroline, Dakota's life was a testament to the beauty of selflessness and the joy of spreading happiness.

He was the beloved son of Susan Martin and stepfather Jerry Martin, and he carried the memory of his late father, Mark Daniel Speas, and his brother Aaron D. Speas, in his kind heart. His grandmother Peggy Brown, alongside whom he shared countless precious moments, survives him. Dakota was predeceased by his grandfather Steve "Poppa" Brown. He was also the adored grandson of Bethelene "Mama Betty" Martin and was preceded in passing by his grandparents Helen and Hoover Speas. The family matriarch, great-grandmother Lucille Grier, will fondly remember Dakota's warm presence. His aunts and uncles, Teresa, Judy, and Tim Speas, and Ronald Shannon, as well as a host of cousins and friends, will miss Dakota's extraordinary ability to light up a room. His Hope Center brothers and sisters will forever cherish the love and laughter he brought into their lives.

Dakota left an indelible mark on the world through his passion for art and painting. His works were not just displays of talent but expressions of his innermost feelings and his love for life. His affinity for animals showcased his compassionate and caring nature, while his involvement with Blondy Church reflected his commitment to his faith. Dakota's love for being outdoors was evident to all, as was his contagious smile that effortlessly drew people to him. Above all, Dakota was a person who loved people wholeheartedly, and this love was returned to him manifold.

In his professional life, Dakota's selfless nature was highlighted by his decision to become an organ donor, a final act of giving that encapsulates his unending desire to help others even in passing. His legacy will live on not only in memories but also in the lives of those who benefited from his ultimate charitable gesture.

A visitation for Dakota will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 5:00 pm until the time of service at 6:30 pm at Blondy Church, where he was a beloved member. The service will be officiated by Brother Jeff Gandy, who will share words of comfort and remembrance for a soul gone too soon but never to be forgotten.
